Having successfully developed, produced and qualified the armour system for the ALTAY main battle tank, Roketsan is now expanding its ballistic protection expertise to provide innovative solutions for other applications.
The company’s Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) provides protection against tandem warheads, minimises collateral damage, can be applied to a wide variety of vehicles, requires no maintenance and is easily dismantled and replaced thanks to its modular design. In addition, it uses Roketsan-developed insensitive munitions.
The lightweight RPG SHIELD system already provides protection against RPG-type threats for the vehicles of Turkish users and the KIPRI vehicles in the inventory of a foreign user. Other protection solutions include floor, side and seat armour for helicopters; the first application was for BLACKHAWK helicopters in Turkish Gendarmerie service.
In addition, Roketsan's protective expertise has been extended to solutions for force protection in camps and forward operating locations:
• RZB-20 Armour Block – high strength composite protection panels for the protection of military zones against medium calibre AP threats;
• RZP-10 Fragmentation Shield – protection against mortar threats for containerised accommodation camps;
• RZK-7 Armor Cage – protection of military zones against RPG threats.
“Ballistic protection systems should be developed as fast as the threats, so that they can keep up with them. The solutions offered by Roketsan to its customers have shown how closely the company has been following developments and how fast it has developed solutions. One of our key advantages is that we are also working on rocket and missile systems, the aim of which is to overcome ballistic protection systems. This brings Roketsan to a very privileged position and we use all the advantages of this privilege for the benefit of our customers,” Selçuk Yasar, President and CEO of Roketsan, commented, drawing attention to the fact that ballistic protection systems are critical systems used to protect the lives of military and security staff.
