The USA’s influence on any country in its sphere of “national interest” in Latin America is fading and the curtain is falling on its old role as the “world’s favourite policeman” against communism on the world stage. This is OK with most Americans as it is an expensive position to be in, in terms of finances and lives. Now, nations across other regions can and must assume this role for themselves, addressing new challenges for their national and regional security, stability and prosperity.

“Latin America” - as noted by a former Secretary General of the OEA, João Clementé Baena Soãres in the late 1980s - “is a combined world power.”

MONS sister publication, TECNOLOGIA MILITAR, has for nearly 40-years sought to present Latin America in this way: “a combined world power.” It is certainly an integral part of TECNOLOGIA MILITAR’s - and the Mönch Publishing Group’s - editorial mission.

Others like him thirty-years ago shared this vision then and more hold it yet today. Latin America is a region of tremendous growth, wealth and potential. Latin pride, regional cooperation, self-determination, and technology transfers from its defence and security industrial complex partners is what will allow it to maintain its role as this combined “world power.”

In the words of COFERIA, it is a: “...forum for ideas where the future of Latin American and Caribbean Defence and Security is prepared.”
