PicoSAR is an extremely flexible system and has flown on more than 10 different aircraft. The radar has been flown in Oceania, the Far East, the Middle East, Europe, North Africa, North America and South America and has been acquired by more than 10 customers. PicoSAR is part of a wider portfolio of airborne radars that include best-in-class M-Scan (mechanically-scanning) and E-scan (electronically scanning) systems for both surveillance and fire-control missions. (Image: Leonardo) QinetiQ was awarded a C$51 million contract to deliver unmanned aircraft systems (UAS, aka drones) that will drive enhanced situational awareness for the Canadian Armed Forces. Story here. The vertical take-off UAS will provide ISTAR services to the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Special Operations Forces Command, for both domestic and international operations. The system, based on the UMS Skeldar V-200 UAS, will be equipped with a number of sensors including the L-3 Wescam MX-8 and MX-10D electro-optic infrared (EO/IR) cameras.

oeing, through its subsidiary Tapestry Solutions, received a 10-year contract from the US Air Force (USAF) to provide Weapon Planning Software (WPS) for numerous aircraft and weapons platforms used by US military and allied forces. 5.11 Tactical's device-ready ABR Pro Pant packs a mean punch, yet does not stand out as a classic tactical pant, i.e. it is great for covert action. With nine total pockets, reinforced seat and knees (internal knee pad ready), and 5.11's trademark utility/tool strap (for easy storage of gloves and other accessible equipment), it is rolled into a relaxed, straight-fit profile. Made with the company's rugged and very light poly/cotton FlexLite Ripstop with mechanical stretch (71% polyester/29% cotton), these tactical pants are dirt and water repellent thanks to the practical Teflon finish. It furthermore comes with updated back pockets that provide adequate space for essential EDC gear and a convenient small D-ring in the front to securely attached carabiners and the such. Currently my favourite everyday office and outdoor pants!

One thing I love is a good fixed blade knife. Gerber's STRONG ARM, in bery durable black ceramic coating that has a smooth finish, is a full tang construction with an exposed point on the pommel, which can be used as a glass breaker, coming out of a glass-reinforced diamond textured, rubberised handle that is secure in the hand even when wet. The knife balances very nicely and the roughly equal proportions between the handle and blade (420HC at 12.2cm/9.8in) are aesthetically pleasing. At an overall length of 24.8cm (9.8in) the STRONG ARM weighs 204g (7.2oz) and comes with Gerber’s brilliant Modular Sheath system, giving it an overall weight of 309g (10.9oz), making it easy to carry, and perfect for those ( dismounted infantry, SOF units) looking to trim as much weight as possible. The sheath system is designed to be adaptable to the user, giving the user various carry options: MOLLE mount, a drop leg system and a belt loop option for horizontal carry (the knife is too big for concealed carry, but it is great for a snag free carry while wearing armour). There are recessed portions that click into the sheath providing positive retention that can be used as thumb pads for defensive purposes. The only downside is the use of 420 HC, as it will not hold an edge for long, but with sharpening this becomes an amazing cutting tool.
