Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) announced on 13 July that negotiations with the Pakistani Ministry of Defence Production have been finalised and that as a result the Pakistan Army will received 30 T129 ATAK Helicopters and a comprehensive package of support measures, to include logistics, munitions, spare parts, ground support equipment and training.

According to TAI, the T-129 ATAK sets new standards in the global market and offers unique survivability features, a new generation engine, state-of-the-art avionis and an asymmetric weapons delivery capability. Optimised for the specific harsh environmental conditions of the Indian sub-continent, the tandem seat, twin engine helicopter is specifically designed for attack and reconnaissance missions with “the best performance and manouevre capability of its class.”

The selection comes after Pakistan conducted extensive tests in both Turkish and Pakistani environmental conditions to confirm the helicopter fully meets army requirements.
