The US government, through the aviation programme administered by the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, has delivered six Bell UH-1H HUEY helicopters to Panama.

The donation, valued at $30 million (€26.7 million), were delivered on 28 June under an agreement that includes crew training and maintenance trough 2023. They are to be operated by the Servicio Nacional Aeronaval (National Naval Aviation Service) and will be based at Teniente Octavio Rodríguez Garrido Air Base in Panamá Pacífico, to the northwest of Panama city.

In Panamanian service the UH-IH donated by the US will be used for a wide variety of missions – though not, presumably, equipped with mine dispensing equipment as is this example in service with the Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force. (Photo via Wikipedia Commons)
