Spanish company Gennaker uses a software-based solution to give any mobile telephone Push-to-Talk (PTT) or ‘walkie-talkie’ capability.  It emulates real-time two-way radio communications, in a group or privately, using mobile handsets or smartphones.  It also offers its own range of ruggedised mobile telephones if the customer would rather not use its own handsets.

Gennaker PTT allows users to be permanently connected to a channel, emulating ‘walkie-talkie’ radio communications via IP networks while simultaneously maintaining a high level of quality of service for mission-critical communications.  It also enables users to employ different types of handsets, based on specific team requirements:
• Mobiles - Instant communication – Smartphones and phones
• Dispatcher Terminals - Geo-location and centralised management of teams
• Radio PTT Interface - Inter-communication between mobile phones and radios

The company has more than thirty years’ experience in military communications.  As a software/hardware solution, the military software developer provides ruggedised solutions to the military and emergency services/first responders communities.  Using a single device with a familiar functionality, end-users do not require additional training or face a steep learning curve to become proficient in using this communications solution. This allows for better coordination among teams; is compatible with professional accessories; increases the range of PPT to a global capability; and provides the anticipated instant communication experienced through PTT radios.
