Over the past two years, more than 20 Bundeswehr airports and its IT school have been modernized with the delivery of Rohde & Schwarz Series 4200 and M3SR Series 4400 radios, the Munich-based company announced on 6 October.
Integrating these locations into the latest Luftwaffe digital Voice-over-IP (VoIP) infrastructure, air traffic control operators are now able to communicate with aircraft on the 8.33kHz VHF channel spacing of the 117.795-137MHz frequency band. This simplifies nationwide frequency planning and coordination and fulfills actual requirements of the European Commission.
“The German Air Force has been using our communication systems for 40 years and has now modernised over 20 airports,” explained Constantin von Reden, the company’s VP Market Segment ATC. “Investments were also made in infrastructure and cable routes, where necessary. Antennas and lightning protection were upgraded in accordance with current standards. Soldiers present at the locations were enthusiastic about the professional and fast work of the Rohde & Schwarz team and its partners on site.”
