The German Ministry of the Interior has selected Elbit Systems Deutschland to supply XACT nv33 night vision goggles (NVG) to the Federal Police, the company announced on 25 March.

The Special Forces and Special Operation units of the German Federal Police face new, complex threats from organised crime and international terrorism. The XACT nv33 will support them in the fight against crime, providing the ability to operate at night – an essential requirement. The Federal Police now joins the Bundeswehr as a user of the XACT nv33. The XACT family of devices has already been selected by a number of undisclosed NATO countries (among them Germany and the Netherlands), as well as by the Israeli and Australian armed forces.

The XACT nv33 is a lightweight binocular image intensifier that can be mounted on a wide variety of helmets and can be used in head-mounted or hand-held configurations. Its compact dimensions, light weight and its ability to facilitate driving a vehicle, for example, in complete darkness, will further increase the operational capabilities for federal officers, and better align their readiness for future security requirements.
