Archangel Systems announces that its AHR150A ADAHRS has been selected for the V-280 VALOR tiltrotor programme, Bell Helicopter’s submission to the US Army’s Joint MultiRole Technology Demonstrator (JMR-TD) programme. JMR-TD is the precursor to the Future Vertical Lift (FVL) initiative created to develop replacements for the UH-60 BLACKHAWK and AH-64 APACHE.
“Bell Helicopter is designing the V-280 VALOR to accommodate escalating long-term capabilities and missions," Michael Greene, Archangel CEO, said. "That puts a premium on the avionics selection process. So we’re thrilled to supply the AHR150A to the project. The 150A provides critical information to both the cockpit displays and the fly-by-wire flight control systems. That is a powerful testament to the caliber of our catalog.”
Specifications for the V-280 VALOR are impressive. With two fuel-efficient turboshaft engines, the aircraft has a useful load of 20,000lbs, a cruise speed of 280kts, and a 2,100nm range. Every possible weight reduction opportunity must be adopted to reach that performance level while meeting mission requirements.
“Archangel’s design philosophy has always focused on high performance at reduced size, weight, and power budgets, but with DAL A software certification,” Bill Dillard, Director of Sales and Marketing at Archangel, concluded. “We see this approach as the future of avionics hardware. Selection onto the V-280 VALOR validates that vision.”
