EXPAL offered visitors to INDO DEFENCE 2018 in Jakarta last week an opportunity to view at first hand its significant rango of global mobility and munitions solutions for mortars, among other defence and security offerings. The company has maintained a regional office in the Asia-Pacific región since 2011 and has sold over 10,000 proximity fuzes to regional customers in the last two years.
Among the highlights of the company’s exhibit were the EIMOS 81mm mortar system integrated into a 4x4 (the first public outing in the region for the system), the SHEPHERD-MIL UAS, that acts as a forward observer, and the ballistic calculator TECHFIRE.
EIMOS, which has been in service since 2015, is a natural evolution of the conventional 81/60 mm mortar system. It integrates an 81 or 60 mm mortar onto a high mobility 4x4 vehicle, improving accuracy and reliability as well as enhanced mobility. This solution also integrates EXPAL’s TECHFIRE fire support information system, which acts as a ballistic calculator, automatic aiming and firing system, as well as command and control system, allowing units to rapidly share targets, fire orders and impact adjustments, among other data. SHEPHERD-MIL, a mini-UAS, completes the EIMOS solution, acting as an unmanned forward observer for the onboard mortar system, and is fully integrated into TECHFIRE.
EIMOS features a very rapid entry into action capability of less than 20s, automatic aiming and firing with high accuracy, high effective hydro-pneumatic recoil absorption, a fast rate of fire, a ‘shoot & scoot’ capability and sharing of vital battlefield information, which contribute to operator survivability across a wide variety of missions.
