Thales has won a contract from the Japan Ground Self Defence Force (JGSDF) for IFF interrogation systems to equip the force’s MANPADS units.

The company will deliver the TSA1412, its lightweight miniaturised IFF interrogator, which features Mode 5, the latest NATO standard. Successful interoperability with Japanese equipment has already been demonstrated, and the TSA1412 is currently undergoing a DoD/AIMS (Air Traffic Radar Control Beacon System Identification Friend or Foe MKXIIA System) certification process.

Thales will establish in-country maintenance capabilities in conjunction with a local partner.
