Armasuisse, Switzerland’s Federal Office for Defence Procurement, has selected Safran Vectronix, a subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense, to supply the Swiss armed forces its next generation of infrared handheld multifunction binoculars and night vision goggles (NVG), the company announced on 18 December. The pertinent federal budget was approved by Parliament at the end of September, after an international competition.

The contract covers the supply of more than 1,000 multifunction JIM Compact and MOSKITO TI infrared goggles, plus more than 8,000 stereoscopic NYX NVG. The equipment to be delivered will expand the operational capabilities of the Swiss armed forces. They will cover a broad spectrum of operational needs including; day/night observation; target acquisition in a variety of conditions, including in a GNSS-denied environment; artillery and firing corrections; for forward observation and Joint Tactical Air Controller (JTAC) missions; all under any weather conditions.

“Safran’s JIM Compact and MOSKITO TI systems, as well as the night vision goggles NYX, will be manufactured and supported by Safran Vectronix AG in Heerbrugg, Switzerland,” commented CEO Max Kreis.
