Three products stand out on visiting the Hensoldt booth at EXPONAVAL 2018: the SERO 250 periscope system, the TRS-4D multifunctional surveillance radar and the PrecISR airborne multimission surveillance radar.
Hensoldt periscopes “are used in more than 20 countries in the world." The 250 “is a periscope developed for the upgrade of submarines that have already completed their lifecycle: we designed it so that the old periscope can be removed without having to alter the hull of the boat. It is high-tech and features rapid installation,” commented Hensoldt Regional Marketing Director Luis Gueren. He added that “for the Chilean Navy, we are in talks regarding their upcoming submarine upgrade, but nothing is yet signed.”
The features and benefits of the SERO 250 include: high performance optics; direct view and TV camera views; eye-safe laser rangefinder; optional IR camera sensor module; dual axis line of sight stabilization; modular design; three-stage optical magnification; and an antenna interface for EW, direction finding, GPS and VHF/UHF radio masts.
In the case of the TRS-4D radar, Gueren notes that the Chilean Navy is modernising three of its frigates, the tender for which was won by Lockheed Martin Canada, who selected this radar for its quality. The Chilean Navy is therefore the first in Latin America with this technology, which in addition to detecting and defending, allows directional attack. It is already being demonstrated in other countries. TRS-4D is a C-band (NATO G-band) naval radar offering powerful surveillance capabilities and high performance threat detection. It allows vessels to detect high density targets in both offshore and complex coastal environments.
The PrecISR airborne multi-mission surveillance radar has been designed 24/7 area surveillance missions in all climatic conditions to guarantee the safety and detection of conventional and asymmetric threats on land, sea and air. Its latest generation sensor, with gallium nitride (GaN) -based active electronically scanned array (AESA) and two-dimensional electronic scanning capability, allows for precision in target detection.
