Airbus Defence & Space has contracted Reiser Simulation & Training to provide all high-fidelity cockpit simulators for the Eurofighter TYPHOON Pilot Synthetic Training System (PSTS) programme, the company announced on 12 October.
The German MoD selected Airbus to extend the PSTS by introducing state-of-the-art simulator cockpits at all the aircraft’s main operating bases in Germany. The contract requires the addition of two additional cockpits at Laage (doubling the existing facility) and replacing 10 cockpits in Laage, Neuburg, Nörvenich, Wittmund and Manching. All cockpits will be equipped with a full suite of cockpit displays and control panels, including a newly-developed fully functional head up display (HUD). They will also include Reiser’s g-seat motion cueing system, simulated anti-g inflation system and breathing air system (SAGS).
Dr Roman Sperl, CEO of RST GmbH, says the company is “[…] convinced that we can further enhance pilot safety and mission readiness with our high-fidelity training systems,” pointing out that RST has designed and delivered over 30 cockpits to all Eurofighter user nations during the last 15 years. “Only a company with wide-ranging expertise will be in the position to shape the future of synthetic flight training,” he adds.
