Nexter is to supply the Albanian Navy with the company’s NARWHAL 20mm remotely operated naval turret system under a contract dated 19 May.

Four systems are to be supplied, two at the end of 2017, two in late 2018, to equip the Albanian Navy’s STAN 4207 patrol vessels, in service since 2008. The contract also covers supply of 20mm ammunition and maintenance equipment.

Combining the efficiency of the Nexter’s 20M621 20mm gun with a set of high-performance day/night electro-optic cameras and a moving target monitoring function, the NARWHAL is perfectly suited to surveillance and maritime police missions, but also interception and self-defence operations in the face of constantly evolving asymmetric threats.

Albania will become the fourth nation to equip its navy with NARWHALs following France, Egypt and Lebanon. The country intends to step up its involvement in maritime surveillance operations, counter-piracy and maritime search and rescue missions.
