The Colombian Navy has concluded a contract with COTECMAR for the acquisition of two SAFE Boats International Type C coastal patrol boats, known as the BAHÍA-class in Colombian service.

The 9.5m craft have an overall beam of 3.1m, a hull constructed of 5/16in-thick 5086 aluminium and weigh 6,561lbs, without engines. They will feature a stabilized FLIR M-525 CS camera and a Furuno DRS4DL radar sensor.

The Navy currently has 36 vessels from the same manufacturer, operating them for the last seven years, including some of the same type as the latest contract. Although the hulls will be fabricated by Safe Boats International in the US, COTECMAR will be responsible to the Colombian Navy for each of the specific stipulations of the contract. Delivery date is scheduled for 15 December.
