Finnish suppressor specialist Ase Utra has unveiled its new DUAL556-BL and DUAL762-BL family of suppressor attachments, geared towards the military and elite units that operate both 5.56mm and 7.62mm assault rifles.

According to Sales Director Lauri Kakkonen, these latest suppressors in the product portfolio feature an innovative new design that reduces the amount of back pressure created compared with a traditional suppressor. The company states that around 0-15% in additional back pressure is created with the DUAL series, compared with 20-50% of traditional suppressors.

This is achieved by effectively creating, “a tube within a tube,” explained Mr Kakkonen, that lets gas escape more effectively. This ensures that weapons with the new suppressor fitted are more reliable and less fouling occurs, which could lead to stoppages. This also means that users do not have to adjust gas pressure when using the suppressor.

The 5.56mm variant weighs 530g and has a diameter of 43.5mm and adds 113mm to a rifle’s length. The 7.62mm variant weighs 570g and has a diameter of 43.5mm and adds 127mm to a rifle’s length.

The new suppressors use the company’s proven BoreLock mounting system, which locks the suppressor in place when interfaced with the company’s proprietary flash hider technology. The company states that the suppressor virtually eliminates flash from the rifle muzzle.

Mr Kakkonen explained that the suppressors had already passed trials representative of US Special Operations Command heavy-duty endurance test cycles. The company is likely to begin serial manufacture in the next few months and in the long term the new DUAL series will likely replace the company’s popular jet-Z family of suppressors.

Mr Kakkonen noted that there is now a growing trend for regular forces to adopt suppressor technology owing to the tactical benefits it creates in sound and flash reduction.
