The General Services Administration has awarded a U$95.6 million contract to the W M Jordan Company in Newport News, VA, to build a new Measurement Systems Laboratory (MSL) at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. The laboratory is scheduled for completion by late 2019.

At 175,000 square feet, the lab will be the largest of the new facilities built to date as part of NASA’s 20-year revitalisation plan. It will be a world-class facility for research and development of new measurement concepts, technologies, and systems, enabling NASA to achieve its mission in space exploration, science, and aeronautics. The facility will have about 40 modular research labs for research and development functions such as electronics, lasers, clean rooms, and instrumentation and will allow consolidation of many laboratories currently dispersed throughout the centre.

"This is going to advance and ensure the capabilities the agency must have for mission success, as well as pave the way for Langley's future as we enter our 100th year," said Dave Bowles, Langley's director. "It will also boost the regional economy by providing several hundred construction-related jobs for the next few years."
